About Bitesize Brazil

Ever wanted to know why Brazilians do something but you either can’t ask that (because you’re not confident in your Brazilian Portuguese skills yet) or don’t know who to ask about it?

This is over!

Or, at least, I’ll try to put an end to your questions.

Welcome. You may be asking – but who the heck are you to help me understand Brazil and all things Brazilian?

I’m Eli. I’ve been teaching Portuguese for a long time. Most of my students are from English-speaking countries. And they tend to ask me Brazil-related questions more often than questions about Portuguese.

  • Is Brazil safe for tourists? (it depends)
  • Is Brazil all in one time zone? (nope)
  • Is Brazil still a dictatorship? (this one got me!)

Students ask me those questions, and non-students started asking those questions lately. I do my best to answer all those questions, but my class time is limited. And I would like to offer a place where I could point readers to and say — here is what I think, here is what happens.

And thus Bitesize Brazil was born: to give you, reader, an opportunity to know more about Brazil and all things Brazilian directly from the horse’s mouth. Whether you’re considering moving to Brazil lock, stock, and barrel, currently romantically involved with a Brazilian, or looking to learn more about the country in general, you’ll find it here.

You’re invited to take part in the discussions as well. All articles are open to comment. I usually respond those comments the next day I receive them.

If you’d like to contribute with your views about a particular topic not yet covered here, you can send me a message directly. Click here to go to the contact page.

And in case you’ve been learning Portuguese and would like to have a resource to keep learning and get answers to your grammar and vocabulary questions, take a look at my teaching website, Portuguese with Eli. There’s a lot to see there, and it’s becoming one of the most accessed resources online. It may be helpful to you too.
