Planning to live in Brazil as an expat?

Is your significant other Brazilian and you want to understand their culture better?

Are you a casual traveler wanting to know more about Brazil?

If you want information about Brazil, you don't want it from a tourist guide.

Most tourist guides want to sell you an image of Brazil that doesn't exist — at least not anymore. They want to make you believe that Brazil is a country of wonders (it is, but of a different kind), that you will find only the best things in the world, and that most Brazilians speak English.

Don't take me wrong. Brazil is a wonderful place; if it weren't, I would have left it long ago.

But as a teacher and effective representative of my country to many foreigners who come here every year, I want you to have a more everyday, blue-collar perspective of what Brazil looks like from the inside.

That's the basic premise of Bitesize Brazil, a website devoted to showing you what Brazil is like from a Brazilian's perspective.

Here, you'll have a safe space to ask questions about Brazil and Brazilian culture, economy, and society. You will have timely articles on different aspects of the Brazilian culture and society.

Hi, I'm Eli

As a Portuguese teacher, I’ve heard all kinds of questions, and the ones my students seem to have more trouble with are related to Brazil. So, I’ve created this blog to help them — and you — understand Brazil and Brazilian culture better. Click here if you want to know more about me and why I made Bitesize Brazil.
